Libraries for children

A culture of children's libraries, built village by village.

We strengthen rural libraries until they stand on their own. Here is the standard we mentor toward, and the five libraries living it.

What a PILH library strives to be

Quality resources

Carefully selected books and tools in every format, digital included where wi-fi allows.

Trained library workers

Serving children from birth through eight, and always learning from library experts.

Information skills

Guidance for seven and eight year olds in finding and using different kinds of information.

A safe, lit evening room

A welcoming place where older girls and boys do schoolwork after dark.

Kreyòl first programs

Activities that include siblings, parents and grandparents, and spark children's own creativity.

A connected community

Teachers empowered, leaders engaged, schools in partnership, NGOs working together.
